Christmas day 2015, staying in a hotel near to Southampton, early breakfast and off to Southampton for Christmas parkrun. This was always going to be a bit of a struggle, just a few days after donating very nearly an armful of blood (again), which it always seems to take me a good month to get over. But it seemed like a great way to start the holiday, so there I was alongside 340 or so others on a glorious but cold morning for the festive parkrun.
The course is two laps, all run on concrete paths, with quite an incline (up and then down) before heading downhill at the end back to where we started from. With over 300, the start was quite crowded, and you really needed to get to the front otherwise you would be held back at the start. But on this day I was quite happy to go off slowly. For the record, I finished in 130th place in 25:14. And then back to the hotel for Christmas lunch 🙂
